GM’s battery operations have scaled up so significantly across the U.S. that, according to Bloomberg, the automaker is now outpacing Tesla in battery cell production—even before hitting full capacity. One standout facility, the $2.3 billion Ultium Cells plant near Nashville, Tennessee, spans the size of five football fields and operates around the clock, producing 5,000 battery cells per hour.
